Boat Yard Storage and Usage Policy

Parking a personal boat in the yard is a privilege of membership and you must follow the rules in this document. By agreement with Shawnee County Parks and Recreation, we are not to be a boat storage facility competing with other storage facilities and so must conduct ourselves likewise.

Members should take care of gate security and keep the center driving area clear. Once the gate is unlocked, spin the numbers on the lock to ensure the combination can’t be viewed later. The northwest part of the lot, across from the launch ramp, should be left as clear as possible for launching and recovering boats. If necessary, personal vehicles may need to be parked outside the lot in the north parking area.

Parking personal boats in the boatyard that are not in working order, are not capable of being launched from the SYC boat ramps, or are not intended to be sailed on Lake Shawnee, is prohibited.

Members are expected to keep their boats in a presentable state to help with the overall appearance of the boatyard. Torn tarps or other covers should be replaced or repaired promptly. Trailers should not have flat tires for an extended period. This is an indication of dereliction.

Club boats and needs have primary priority. Secondary priority is given to a member’s primary boat. Members who desire to park more than one boat will be given less priority than those above and could be asked to move them off site if room is needed for club needs or other members’ primary boats.

All boats that require one must have a current registration from Kansas, or another state properly displayed on the boat.

Boats should be parked within their designated spot and centered as well as possible to allow freedom of movement around it and neighboring boats. Those parked on the east side should not protrude past the asphalt as it prevents lawn maintenance.

The club will assign spaces based on boat sizes and efficiency in the boat yard. If you encounter any difficulty with the assigned space, please consult the boat yard governor.

All boats must have their masts up from June 1 to August 31 as an indication they are sailable and in working order. Club boats and those with freestanding masts (Lasers, Sunfish, etc.), are not subject to this rule.

Members who are not current on dues or storage fees or drop their membership should have their boats removed from the yard within thirty (30) days.

Discretion may be given to the above rules on a case-by-case basis by the boat yard governor.
